Program Overview:
The UofL Health Nursing Professional Development Program (NPDP) will provide recognition and reward for nurses in clinical practice who demonstrate clinical excellence. The program will provide an avenue to help nurses advance in achieving their professional goals, emphasizing clinical practice, quality, patient safety, shared decision making, evidence-based practice and nursing research.
Purpose:
The NPDP encourages the professional development of UofL Health clinical RNs through demonstrated high quality, evidence-based nursing care, advancement of individual practice and the profession of Nursing. The objectives of the program are to:
Promote positive patient outcomes by motivating staff to achieve their highest level of clinical competence.
Keep the most competent staff in clinical practice.
Provide a mechanism for recruitment and retention of the highest quality personnel.
Allow for diversity and control of career choices.
Develop a nursing clinical advancement model reflective of current best practices in health care.
Eligibility:
The NPDP is available to any nurse who does not fall into a leadership role. To be eligible for the NPDP each applicant must meet the following criteria:
Be in a nursing role at UofL Health for a minimum of one year prior to application submission.
Work full-time or part-time.
Not in the disciplinary process at the written level or above, for one year prior to application submission.
Satisfactory performance appraisal with “Meets Expectations” on most recent evaluation.
Supporting documentation from the department manager or director.
Commit to work for the organization for each reimbursement received based on award level.
